What are Boyle County Public Records?

A Boyle county public record is any piece of government information that is open to the public. Under Kentucky's Open Records and Open Meetings Act, all state, county, and municipal agencies holding these records must make them available and accessible to everyone. The term “public records” refers to all typed documents, handwritten notes, pictures, audiotapes, emails, videotapes, and any other means of recording information.

On the other hand, KORA exempts the following from public view:

  • Personal records whose disclosure would constitute an unnecessary violation of privacy.
  • Records that an agency compiles and maintains for research purposes
  • Records whose disclosure would give competitors in an industry an unfair advantage in business
  • An agency’s internal records, which it might create in concert with financial institutions
  • Real estate appraisals, engineering, or feasibility estimates that a public agency might commission through a private party
  • Student test questions, scoring keys, and examination information
  • Law enforcement records
  • Records whose disclosure would harm the agency involved
  • Internal drafts, notes, correspondence with private individuals
  • Public records that federal or state legislation prohibits from disclosure
  • Records whose exposure might increase the likelihood of a threat to public safety

In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either opt to use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. Users are able to search third-party websites remotely for multiple records at a time with just the name of the record subject and their last known location including the city, county, or state. Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
